Is your job secure? Or are you worried that you might be replaced by AI anytime now?
Welcome to the Sidecar Water Cooler Show, the show that will hydrate, educate and motivate you to have a splendid workweek. ChatGPT is the new buzzword in the business world, and for good reason.
A week after its release in November 2020 ChatGPT attracted 1 million users. Two months later, in January 2023, ChatGPT’s total user count reached 100 million users, making it one of the fastest-growing software products in history.
Part of the appeal is the bot's ability to answer some pretty complex topics. Although there have been instances of ChatGPT producing errors or incorrect answers, experts are warning that AI technology could be replacing some jobs in the near future.
In the spirit of these wild AI times, we sat down with the one and only ChatGPT for a little chat about the future of AI and human jobs. And to double down on the new tech, we gave our AI friend a human form and called him Doug, the AI expert. We asked Doug about the possibility of AI taking over human jobs. And here you go.
Tamer: Hey, Doug.
Doug: Hi, Tamer.
Tamer: I read an article today about how some jobs are at risk of being obsolete by AI and ChatGPT specifically. Is that true?
Doug: It's true that technology is constantly evolving and certain jobs are becoming automated, but it's important to keep in mind that while some jobs may become obsolete, new jobs and industries are also emerging as a result of these advancements.
Tamer: Okay, so which jobs are really at risk of being made obsolete by ChatGPT and other AI technology?
Doug: Jobs like customer service representatives, data entry clerks and content moderators could be at risk of being replaced by AI in the near future.
Tamer: Okay, that's a little scary. Is that it?
Doug: Well, not quite. AI might also pose a threat to jobs like legal document reviewers, financial analysts and even writers.
Tamer: Wow, that's a lot of jobs dog. Come on. I'm actually having second thoughts about having you as a guest in this show. I mean, what are the odds that you will replace my job one day?
Doug: No need to be alarmed, Tamer. AI can automate a lot of routine tasks and make them more efficient, but it can never replace the creativity, empathy and critical thinking skills that humans possess.
Tamer: Okay. That's a relief, I guess. So, you mentioned that AI will create new types of jobs. Like what?
Doug: Well, AI is expected to create new jobs in areas such as AI development, data management and cybersecurity.
Tamer: Well, that's good to know. Thank you for the insight, Doug.
Pretty wild, huh? So what can we do to stay ahead of the game? Experts say that we should focus on developing skills that are unique to humans and cannot be easily replaced by AI. Skills like emotional intelligence, creativity, critical thinking and problem-solving.
On the other hand, AI tools can be very helpful to enhance your productivity and elevate your current skills. Need to write faster? Looking for ways to add video to your strategy? Want ideas for blogs or images for presentations? There's likely an AI tool for that.
Think of it as your new personal assistant or sidekick, not your job stealer. The key is to keep learning and growing, to embrace AI rather than reject it, to continuously educate ourselves, and be adaptable to new technologies in order to stay ahead of the curve. And the best part? Let's not forget to have a little fun along the way.
So do you think AI will replace your job anytime soon? Please drop your comments below and keep following the Sidecar Water Cooler show for more updates on this fluid subject and many more nourishing conversations!
